The laptop manufacturers sees businesses in the future adopting touchscreens, but the technology needs further development to be an alternative to keyboards and mice in corporate environments, a company executive said.
Touch is a natural way for humans to interact with PCs, and businesses are experimenting with the technology to see how it can be used, said John Cook, vice president of marketing at HP’s consumer PC global business unit.
Touchscreens could be used for engineering and design applications where higher levels of precision are required when manipulating images. Touchscreens could also be relevant for database tasks, where screens can be touched to retrieve data without typing or clicking a mouse multiple times.
A strong software ecosystem is emerging for businesses to adopt touch PCs, and one of this can be Windows 7 OS, which builds in native support for touch capabilities. The native capabilities could expand the use of touchscreens and encourage developers to focus software design around touch. For its part, HP is developing a software ecosystem through which it provides tools and support for developers to write touch-enabled programs.
This article describe the latest trends in business for laptops, and this is the laptops with touchscreens.
HP TouchSmart tx2-1275dx touchscreen laptop
At the heart of the TouchSmart tx2-1275dx is its rotating touchscreen display with multitouch support. Using multitouch gestures is unquestionably fun and potentially useful, but this functionality requires a few sacrifices. For starters, the TouchSmart tx2-1275dx can’t match the performance of similarly priced laptops with Intel Core 2 Duo processors. Secondly, the battery life is poor. And finally, while the TouchSmart tx2-1275dx boasts an eye-catching design with one of HP’s Imprint finishes, it’s a bit portly for a 12-inch ultraportable.

The keyboard is quiet and relatively roomy, for a 12-inch laptop and the buttons like page up and down, and end keys that normally reside along the right edge of a keyboard have been relocated to right-hand side of the tiny top row of F keys.
The screen have 12.1 inch and it’s wide-screen, with a native resolution of 1,280×800-pixel. The TouchSmart tx2-1275dx has a dual-mode display, and this mean that you can use a digital pen for drawing and taking notes as well as your finger for navigating, opening apps, and flipping through photos.
Also the multitouch screen lets you can zoom in and out of photos by moving two fingers closer together or farther apart. You can also rotate a photo by anchoring your thumb and moving your index finger in a circular motion. And you can bring up HP MediaSmart interface by drawing a wavy “m” on the desktop. While these multitouch gestures are fun to play around with, simply clicking or tapping the rotate button in your photo viewer is faster.

The ports and connectors featured on this tablet PC include VGA-out port, stereo speakers, headphone/microphone jacks, 3 USB 2.0, SD card reader, ExpressCard/34, Modem, Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and DVD burner. However, it lacks mini-HDMI or mini-DVI port, and mini-FireWire port that you will find on other laptops.
Asus Eee PC T91 touchscreen laptop
Asus Eee PC T91 is the first touchscreen laptop from Asus, and is released in 2009. It’s a much more flexible way to interact with a Netbook, especially if you’re tripped up by the tiny touch pads and keyboards found on most minilaptops.

The touchscreen it’s a resistive interface, and in this case you don’t need to use the supplied stylus to interact with it, it’s enough to use the end of your finger, or fingernail, will do the job just as well. The optional custom touch interface, with big, easy to grab icons, works well.
The 8.9-inch screen can be rotated with 180 degrees and folded down to cover the keyboard in a standard tablet way. The screen is a wide-screen with a native resolution 1,024×600, which is standard for Netbooks.

You launch the Touch Gate interface by either tapping a physical button on the screen bezel, launching from a desktop shortcut, or by tapping a launch button on the Mac-like Eee dock bar that sits at the top of the Windows XP desktop.
With 802.11n and Bluetooth, the T91 is a well-equipped Netbook. The 16GB SSD hard drive feels like a bit of a throwback–and Asus must have sensed the same thing, because a second SD card slot is built in, and there’s an extra 16GB SD card included in the box. By plugging the SD card into the second SD card slot (labeled “disk-expander”), you now have a much more practical 32GB of total storage. Eee PC T91 has a processor with 1.33GHz, version of Intel’s Atom processor, instead of the more common 1.6GHz N270 version.

Asus Eee PC T91
Windows XP Home Edition SP3; 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520; 1024MB DDR2 SDRAM 533MHz; 256MB (Shared) Mobile Intel GMA 500; 16GB ASUS-JM S41 SSD + 16GB SD Expansion Card
HP TouchSmart tx2z touchscreen laptop

The touchscreen laptop has 12.1-inch wide-screen LCD display offers a 1,280×800 native resolution, which is standard for a screen this size. The tx2z has a dual-mode display, meaning you can use a digital pen for drawing and taking notes as well as your finger for navigating, opening apps, and flipping through your photos. And you can combine the two if you’re into that sort of thing. It has a few multitouch commands, so you can use two-finger gestures to do things like rotate photos or zoom in and out of Web pages, similar to an iPhone or MacBook.

I have an old laptop and I want to buy a new one, and I want to replace this one with another one with touchscreen. A laptop with touchscreen can be used more easily and the next laptop for me should have this feature
I bought the MacBook 2.0 a little weary about what people were saying about the screen being glossy, darks being not dark enough, and bad viewing angles. However, after buying it anyway, I found that those critiques are quite harsh and I have had a great pleasure using this mac with the gloss screen. Yeah, the viewing angle is limited to being in front of the mac, but that is fine, you are usually in front of it when you’re using it… Anyway, for those who still are scared about it, using an external monitor is always an option for the days you really need to become the biggest critique of your life and need something not glossy, and you need to sit at a funny angle, and you need the blacks to be really black!
I’m loving it.
